テキスタイルを楽しむ

POLS(ポルス)は創業1901年の先染織物メーカー「丸萬」（兵庫・西脇市）と、
テキスタイルデザイナー梶原加奈子とのコラボレーションにより、2015年に誕生しました。
ジャカード織りで制作された、インテリアやファッションのアイテムを中心に、
「テキスタイルの楽しみ」を発信していきます。

POLS is a brand that Maruman,
a 115-year-old yarn-dyed weaving manufacturing and tradingfirm (Nishiwaki City, Hyogo),
and Kanako Kajihara launched in 2015.
We are ready to send pleasures and fun of and by textiles
with emphasis on interior and fashion items woven in Jacquard style.

ポルスピンクは濁らない

人の微かな息使いのような色合いも、複雑に想をなす心のような模様も、
すべてを「織り」によってつくった、一枚の織り布。
それこそPOLSの根本の世界です。
一本一本の経糸緯糸は、柔らかい建築のように入り組んでいます。強靭です。
糸から色彩が発しているから、色は微妙なまま、くっきりしています。澄んでいます。
PINKはPOLSの血管を流れる透き通った血。
光であり、祝祭。布の喜びの紅潮。

POLS PINK STANDS CLEAN

POLS came into being from such a world
where tones of colors are as delicate as human breath and layered patterns are as complicated as fabulous hearts.
We weave such delicacies and complexities into pieces of cloth named POLS. In the POLS world,
every warp and weft are structured and woven into a piece of cloth as tenacious and tough as architecture,
with softness still upheld, The dyed threads emit their own colors,
so each color stands clear apart from other colors in a delicate balance.
PINK is blood; POLS, a vessel carrying such cleanliness and transparency.
PINK is light and explodes into ecstasy in a textual feast.

整数144の電子ジャカード

ジャカード織とは、経糸を自動的に上下に開口する織り機を使い、
複雑で不規則な柄を表現する技法です。
なかでも西脇の播州織のジャカードの特徴は、柄や色ではなく、
144本/inchという密度設計にあります。
144（産地では、イッチョンチョンと呼ぶ）という数字は、約数を15個もつ最小の数です。
この魔法の数字が、緻密な柄も、大胆な表情も、実現するキーになっています。
明治期に丸山萬右衛門がいちはやく自動織機を導入し播州織の歴史を変えた丸萬は、
現代もコンピューターの3Dプログラミングとクリエイションを掛け合わせ、
播州織の無限の可能性を模索します。

Electronic Jacquard of Integer ‘144’

The patterns in Jacquard fabrics are conceived through an intricate process of weaving.
Various patterns are created according to the number of threads that are passed through the warp.
It is thanks to the 144 threads/inch density structure
that enable’s Nishiwaki’s Jacquard weave to freely adjust the warp.
144 is the smallest number with 15 divisors.
This majical number serves as the key in realizing various patterns from the bold and dynamic,
to the complex and irregular.Maruman founder Maruyama Man’emon had transformed the history of Banshu-Ori
by being one of the first in the industry to incorporate the use of automated looms.
Today, we at POLS continue to evolve by combining digital 3D programming
and creation in an effort to pursue Banshu-Ori that deviates from tradition,
creating textiles that are unique and like no other.

西脇

兵庫県のやや東に位置する西脇市。
大正時代に「西脇の北緯35度東経135度」は日本の真ん中と認定された歴史を持つ。
ユニークな形の山々に囲まれ、どこかの惑星のようなゴツゴツした河原や、
ふいに別の道につながるY字路など、不思議な風景がひろがります。
市内を加古川、杉原川、野間川の3つの河川が流れ、豊かな水源が染めの技術を進化させましたが、
時には大きな水害をもたらすこともありました。
芸術家の横尾忠則氏を輩出した地としても知られています。

Nishiwaki

When viewed on a map, Nishiwaki City in the Hyogo Prefecture is located
at the crossing of the 135° East meridian and the 35° North parallel.
Geographically certified in the Taisho period as the central point of the Japanese archipelago,
it came to be recognized as “The Navel of Japan.”
What had made Nishiwaki City famous prior to this since the Edo period,
were textiles referred to as “Banshu-Ori.
”Surrounded by gently-sloping mountains,
the rich water of the three rivers flowing through the city had served to nurture the region’s distinct techniques of yarn-dyeing.
Nishiwaki is also the birthplace of artist Tadanori Yokoo,
who has continued to depict Y-shaped intersections situated throughout the city as a key motif in his work.
It is a somewhat extrodinary city that is indeed befitting for its reputation as “The Navel of Japan.”
